Mission statement

An explanation of the purpose and direction of the Herr Memorial Library.

The Jane I. and Annetta M. Herr Memorial Library was established in 1944 by Article 13 of the Last Will and Testament of Jane I. Herr to function as a free public library for citizens of the Borough of Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania.

In accordance with the will and philosophy of Jane I. Herr, the Board of Trustees strives to reach three main goals:  1) to assemble, organize, and preserve materials that are of historical value to the community, including rare books and other printed materials and area family genealogies; 2) to make available materials that cover a healthy diversity of topics and perspectives to meet the community’s educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs; 3) to meet the future needs of the community in these areas by utilizing and making available technological advances in information services.
