Get a library card

     Since March 27, 2002, when the Union County Library System switched to an automated circulation system, the Herr Memorial Library in Mifflinburg, the Public Library for Union County in Lewisburg, and the West End Library in Laurelton, have used the same type of card.

     The UCLS card contains a unique bar code and 14-digit number that can be used at each of the three system libraries.  Borrowers must present their cards to check out materials and are responsible for any item checked out with their cards.  Changes in address and any lost or stolen cards must be reported to the library. There is a replacement cost.

     To receive a library card, everyone must complete an application and present identification that includes the borrower’s name and current address.  A parent or legal guardian must co-sign an application for anyone under 18.  While a valid driver’s license is preferred, other acceptable forms of identification may include a voter’s registration card, mail with current address, a rental agreement, a property tax bill, a utility bill, or a checkbook. 

     No card can be issued without acceptable identification.  University students must have school identification as well as a driver’s license.  Any borrower who is not a Union County resident but who is a Pennsylvania resident must present a home library card with an ACCESS PA sticker in addition to a driver’s license.

     You can register during regular library hours, and you will be given a card and may check out materials on the day that an application has been completed and proper identification has been recorded.  Residents of Union County will have an ACCESS PA sticker on their cards which allows them to borrow materials from other participating Pennsylvania public libraries.
