Bloom's Literary Reference Online
This site include's Professor Harold Bloom's "The Western Canon" along with information about authors, works, and strategies for writing.
The three Union County libraries – the Herr Memorial Library in Mifflinburg, the West End Library in Laurelton, and the Public Library for UnionCounty in Lewisburg – all subscribe to “Bloom’s Literary Reference Online” by Facts on File.
In 1994, Harold Bloom, a literary critic who currently holds a Sterling Professorship in Humanities and English at Yale University, published The Western Canon, a survey of the major literary works of post-Roman Europe, with a list of all the Western works from antiquity to the present which Bloom considered either as permanent members of the canon of literary classics, or (among more recent works) as candidates for that status.
The “Bloom’s Literary Reference Online” site features the professor’s famous Canon, articles about authors, works, themes, and topics, and even strategies for writing. The site also offers a global literary timeline as well as images and videos about authors, their works, and the eras in which they worked.
