Library's Silent Auction to feature quilts, gifts
press release
Jeanne Roberts, Director of the Herr Memorial Library, displays an heirloom crazy quilt with feathered stitching created during the 1920s by Mrs. Amanda (Auman) Lose in Fiedler, Centre County.
In conjunction with Mifflinburg’s annual Buggy Days celebration, the Board of Trustees of the Herr Memorial Library will hold a silent auction fundraiser that will feature new and antique quilts and quilted wall-hangings and will include other gift items arranged in lots.
The “Stitch in Time” Silent Quilt Auction, with a special “Various and Sundry Treasures” section, will be held on Sat., June 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, 279 Market Street.
There is no admission fee for the auction. Anyone who registers as a bidder will receive a number to write bids on sheets for each lot, whether it is a quilt, quilted item, or a “Treasures” lot.
Bidding will begin at 10 a.m. for all items and will end at 3 p.m. for the “Various and Sundry Treasures” section and at 3:30 p.m. for the “Stitch in Time” section.
The Methodist Church’s women’s group will offer a light picnic-style lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the event.
For more information about the silent auction, call 966-0831 or visit the library at 500 Market Street.
The library also will host a Commonwealth Speaker program by Candace Perry, “The Fabric of Daily Life: Pennsylvania German Textile Traditions” at 1:30 p.m. on Sat., June 7, at the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum, 598 Green Street.
