Herr Memorial Library to sponsor silent quilt auction
press release
In an effort to support quilting and folk arts in central Pennsylvania, as well as to create an interesting fundraiser, the Board of Trustees of the Herr Memorial Library will hold a unique silent quilt auction in early June.
Representatives from the library have begun to solicit bed quilts, crib quilts, and quilted wall hangings for the “Stitch in Time” Silent Quilt Auction that will be held on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church. The event will be held in conjunction with Mifflinburg's annual Buggy Days celebration.
There is no entry fee for the event, but an entry form must be completed for each item and returned to the library at 500 Market Street in Mifflinburg by Thursday, May 1. Quilts must be new or heirloom in excellent condition. Entries cannot be made of pre-printed fabric or “cheater cloth.”
Quilts usually have a story, and entrants are asked to include as much background information about heirloom quilts as possible. Descriptions of patterns, techniques and embellishments are encouraged.
Individual and group entries for the silent auction will be accepted. Group entries should include the names of all those who worked on the quilt.
All quilt entries must have a four-inch rod pocket for hanging, and the quilter’s name should be sewn on the back of the quilt.
The entrant is asked to set the lowest acceptable price for the quilt or wall hanging. The price set is the price the entrant will receive. Any money received from the silent auction above the set price will go to support the Herr Memorial Library.
Donations of quilts, quilt hangings, and high quality quilt accessories such as quilt racks and quilt ladders will be appreciated.
For entry forms or more information contact the Herr Memorial Library at 966-0831 or by e-mail at herr@herrlibrary.org.
