Entry date nears for library’s silent quilt auction

Thursday, May 1, is the last day to enter a quilt or quilted item in the Herr Memorial Library’s first “Stitches in Time” Silent Quilt Auction. The Mifflinburg library’s Auction Committee already has received more than a dozen items for the fundraising event, ranging from full-sized new and antique bed quilts to miniature quilts and wall-hangings.
Additional donations for the event’s “Various and Sundry Treasures” section have been received too, including themed gift baskets featuring items such as children’s activity kits, pet accessories, needlework supplies, and free services.
The library’s “Stitch in Time” Silent Quilt Auction will be held on Sat., June 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church on Market Street.
The fundraising event, which was created to support quilting and folk arts in central Pennsylvania, will be held in conjunction with Mifflinburg's annual Buggy Days celebration.
There is no fee to enter a quilt in the silent auction, but an entry form must be completed for each item and returned to the library at 500 Market Street in Mifflinburg by Thurs., May 1. Quilted items must be new or heirloom in excellent condition. Entries cannot be made of pre-printed fabric or “cheater cloth.”
Individual and group entries for the silent auction will be accepted. Each entrant is asked to set the lowest acceptable price for the quilt or quilted item. The price set is the price the entrant will receive. Any money received from the silent auction above the set price will go to support the Herr Memorial Library.
Donations of quilted items -- as well as items and services suitable for the “Various & Sundry Treasures” section of the event -- are appreciated.
