Just for Teens
The Herr Memorial Library provides programs, services and materials for teens.
Hey teens, did you know that you can get your own library
card? The cards, which may be used at all three Union
County libraries -- as well as other libraries across the state that
participate in the Pennsylvania Access program -- are available free of
charge to resident students. Simply fill out an application form
and have it signed by a parent or legal guardian.
The Herr Memorial Library offers a variety of material for teens. The Young Adult section is located near the old front door of the library, opposite the staircase. It is between the Adult Fiction and Nonfiction collections. In addition to hardcover and paperback books, the library offers a selection of books on tape or CD as well as VHS tapes and DVDs.
This summer the Herr Memorial Library will host "Metamorphosis @ Your Library," a special reading program for teens. Registration for the free program will begin on Mon., June 2, 2008.
The image above was inspired by a 1915 novella written by German author Franz Kafka called Die Verwandlung, or The Metamorphosis. The main character, a young traveling salesman named Gregor Samsa, wakes one day to find that he has become a "monstrous vermin" that seems to be a human-sized cockroach. To read an English translation of the work, which has been described as a kind of "magical realism," you can go Project Gutenberg's e-books by clicking here: The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
