Just for children
The Herr Memorial Library provides programs, services and materials for children.

- Douglas R. Bickhart, Mifflinburg Borough’s Chief of Police, visited two story time sessions at the Herr Memorial Library to talk to children so that they would not be afraid of uniformed policemen, and he also let them sit in his vehicle. They were able to see the flashing lights and hear the vehicle’s siren so that the children would know to associate them with police.
These canvas tote bags are filled with four to nine books related by themes, subjects, or authors, as well as laminated sheets of ideas for crafts, games, and other activities for children who are preschool and elementary school ages.
The library also serves the Mifflinburg community
through quality, creative children's programs. Throughout
the year, three different Story Times are offered. All are free
of charge and are geared toward a specific developmental stage.
Registration is made on a first-come, first-serve basis, and programs
fill up quickly. The Herr Memorial Library occasionally does have
waiting
lists for Story Time programs.
Baby Story Time is offered on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. It is a 30-minute program designed for infants from birth to 18 months of age along with a caregiver and includes simple stories, rhymes, and songs.
Toddler Story Time is offered on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. It is a 30-minute program designed for children from 19 months to 3 years of age along with a caregiver and includes stories, rhymes, songs, and some movement activities.
Preschool Story Time is offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It is a program that not only includes stories, rhymes, songs, and movement activities, but also simple crafts for children ages three to five who have not yet begun kindergarten. Parents or caregivers must remain with their children during the program. Preschool Story Time focuses on themes such as seasons, shapes, colors, and letter recognition.
During the summer of 2008 the Herr Memorial Library offered a variety of interesting activities and events for children as part of the free "Catch the Reading Bug @ Your Library" children's reading program.
Teens and ‘tweens were invited to become members of the summer “Bugs for Lunch Bunch” at the library.
During the school year the Herr Memorial Library provides quiet places for students to study as well as a wide variety of resources both on the shelves and on the Internet.
